How our books are made

Why we tell you this

You are not just reading these books — you are learning a language from them. That makes how they were produced a fair question, and one you should not have to go looking for. So here is the whole process, including the parts that are automated.

The stories

Every FluentWeave book is an original work. Nothing is adapted from an existing novel, abridged from another author, or assembled from public-domain text.

The stories are written with AI assistance. A book begins as a concept and a cast, is developed into a chapter-by-chapter plan, and is then drafted, edited, and assessed chapter by chapter against that plan. Language difficulty is a design constraint from the start rather than something applied afterwards: sentence length, vocabulary, and structure are shaped for the reading level printed on the cover.

No book is released until a human editor has read and edited it in its entirety. A draft that does not hold up as a story does not ship, however cleanly it passes our automated checks.

The translations

Each book is translated into Spanish, French, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese. These translations are AI-produced, working from a document that captures the book's characters, terminology, tone, and recurring phrases, so that names and key wording stay consistent from the first chapter to the last.

Every translation is then checked automatically, sentence by sentence, for complete coverage, matching numbers and quotations, consistent terminology, and length ratios that would indicate something went wrong. A separate automated review pass examines anything those checks flag, along with a sample of the rest.

We will not pretend this is the same thing as a literary translator. It is a careful, checked machine translation of a book that was written to be translatable and edited by people before translation began. The narration

All audio is synthetic speech. There are no human voice actors. Narration is produced in English and in each of the four translation languages.

Every audio file is verified after it is generated — that it decodes correctly, and that its length matches the words it is supposed to contain. As each sentence is read aloud, the app shows you that sentence's text; keeping the two in step comes from automated alignment between the audio and the words, cross-checked against a second, independent alignment method so that drift is caught rather than shipped.

The covers

Cover artwork is generated as painted illustration using image models, from a scene description written for each individual book. The titles and reading-level labels are typeset afterwards. No cover depicts a real person.

Where people decide

The production process behind these books is heavily automated, and we would rather be precise about that than vague. Automated checks can confirm that a translation is complete and consistent; they cannot tell you whether a book is worth reading. People make these calls, and no book reaches you without them:

• an editor reads and edits the complete book before it goes into production;
• a person listens to narration samples and approves the voice before the rest is produced;
• a person reviews and approves the cover artwork;
• a person approves the finished book for publication.

Reading levels

The level shown on each cover — Lower Intermediate through Upper Intermediate — is our own editorial grading, chosen when the book is designed and applied throughout. It is a guide to help you pick a book you can actually read. It is not a formal assessment, and it is not certified against any external framework.
