Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 10, 2026
Summary (plain English): FluentWeave is built to collect as little as possible. There is no sign-up — no email address, no password, no profile. The app creates a random, anonymous identifier so your subscription can unlock content; we never learn who you are. Beyond that, we keep subscription records, crash reports, and — unless you opt out — anonymous usage statistics that we host ourselves. No advertising or analytics companies. The books themselves, and your place in them, stay on your device. We do not sell your information, and we do not track you.
Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the FluentWeave mobile app and the FluentWeave website.
Information We Collect
- Anonymous account identifier: When you first use FluentWeave, the app generates a random identifier (a UUID — a string of letters and numbers). It is not derived from your name, email address, Apple ID, or device, and it cannot be used by us to identify you. It is stored in your device's Keychain and synced by Apple's iCloud Keychain to your other devices so a subscription works everywhere you're signed in to iCloud. Because it lives in your iCloud Keychain — and because it is also attached to your Apple purchase, so it can be recovered from your purchase history — the same identifier normally comes back if you delete and reinstall the app, or restore a purchase on a new device. That is what lets your subscription follow you without an account.
- Subscription and purchase records: Subscriptions are purchased through Apple. Apple processes your payment and never shares your name, email address, or payment details with us. Apple provides us cryptographically signed transaction records, which we store linked to your anonymous identifier so we can verify that your subscription is active and unlock downloads.
- Usage statistics (you can turn these off): Unless you switch off "Help improve FluentWeave" in Settings → Privacy, the app sends us anonymous usage events: which setup screens you visit, the pair of languages you chose during setup, whether the subscription screen leads to a purchase, whether book downloads succeed or fail, and playback session statistics (which book, which language, how long, how many sentences). Events are tagged with your anonymous identifier so we can count unique users. These events never include the text or audio of books, your name or contact details, or your location. Turning the toggle off stops all usage statistics immediately and does not affect any feature. (It does not affect problem reports you choose to send — see below.)
- Problem reports (only when you send one): FluentWeave lets you report a problem — a bad translation, audio that doesn't match the text, a playback bug — from the reading screen or from Settings. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send. A report includes: the kind of problem, anything you type in the comment box, the app and iOS version, and your app's display language. When the report is about a specific passage it also includes the book, chapter, language, and a copy of the sentence you were reading, so we can find and fix the exact line. When the report is about the app itself, it also includes your device model (for example
iPhone14,6) and whether a car stereo or CarPlay was connected, because those bugs can't be reproduced without it. Reports are tagged with your anonymous identifier so we can recognise duplicates and prevent abuse. There is deliberately no name or email field. Problem reports are not analytics, so they are sent even if you have turned off "Help improve FluentWeave" — but only ever when you tap Send. If you choose the subscription or billing topic, the app does not send anything to us: it opens a pre-filled email in your own mail app so we can reply to you. That draft quotes your anonymous identifier, app version, and device model in the visible message body, where you can read and delete any of it before sending. Your email address comes from your mail app; the app never reads it. - Crash and performance reports: If the app crashes, a technical report is sent to Sentry, a crash-reporting service, tagged with your anonymous identifier so we can tell how many users an issue affects. The report contains the device model, OS version, app version, the state of the app at the time, and a short trail of the app's own diagnostic log messages leading up to the problem. We configure these reports to exclude the contents of network requests and responses. A small random sample of sessions (about 10%) also sends performance timings, such as app launch speed. Sentry processes this data on servers in the United States.
- Book downloads and catalog: When you browse the catalog, the app requests the current book list from our server without sending your identifier. When you download a book, our server processes the request (which book, authorized by your anonymous identifier) in order to deliver the files and to count whether downloads succeed. Cover images are fetched from our content delivery network.
- Server logs and abuse prevention: Like nearly all internet services, our servers briefly process your IP address to defend against abuse (rate limiting) and in transient infrastructure logs. Rate-limiting entries expire within one hour.
- On your device only: Your reading position, finished chapters, playback speeds, font size, and — if you use Driver Mode — the name of the car stereo you confirmed, are stored locally on your device. They are not sent to us. Note that the languages you choose are included in usage statistics (above) unless you opt out; everything else in this list stays local.
- Website: We do not intentionally collect personal information through this website other than what you choose to send us (for example, by email or through the form described below).
- Website — launch notifications: If you enter your email address in the “notify me at launch” form, we store that address and the date you submitted it. We use them for one thing: a single email when FluentWeave is released. We do not store your IP address, browser, or referring page alongside it, we do not add you to any other list, and we do not share or sell it. Write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
- Website — visitor statistics: We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your browser, and does not follow you to other sites. It shows us aggregate totals — which pages were viewed, roughly where in the world from, and which sites linked to us — never individual visitors.
- Email: If you email us, we receive your email address and message content so we can respond.
Data We Do Not Collect (App)
The FluentWeave app does not collect or request access to:
- Your name, email address, or phone number
- Location data
- Contacts
- Photos, media library, or camera data
- Health data
- Payment card details (Apple processes payment; we never see them)
- Advertising identifiers
- Microphone data
The app's "speak aloud" practice feature is a timed silence — a pause in playback. It does not listen to you, record you, or evaluate your speech, and the app never requests microphone access.
Tracking
We do not track you. FluentWeave does not use data for cross-app or cross-site tracking, contains no advertising, and shares nothing with data brokers or ad networks.
How We Use Information
- Subscriptions: To verify your subscription and unlock book downloads.
- Improvement: To understand, in aggregate, how the app is used so we can improve it (unless you opt out).
- Reliability: To find and fix crashes and defects.
- Content quality: To correct errors in our books when you report them.
- Roadmap: To decide which books and languages to add, based on what people ask for.
- Abuse prevention: To defend our service against abuse.
- Email/support: To respond to inquiries and provide support.
- Legal: To comply with legal obligations if applicable.
Sharing and Service Providers
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own purposes.
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf and under our instructions:
- Apple — payment processing and subscription management
- Cloudflare — hosts our servers, database, and book content delivery
- Sentry — processes crash and performance reports, on servers in the United States
If you use FluentWeave outside the United States, note that data handled by these providers may be processed there.
Beyond these providers, we disclose information only if required by law or to protect our rights.
Data Retention
- Usage statistics: deleted automatically after 90 days.
- Problem reports: kept while we work through the correction, and no longer than 12 months.
- Anonymous identifier: kept while your account exists; removed by account deletion (below).
- Subscription and purchase records: deleted outright when you delete your account — we do not keep a de-identified copy. Apple keeps its own record of your purchase independently of us, under Apple's privacy policy.
- Crash and performance reports: deleted automatically by Sentry at the end of the retention window for our Sentry plan. We do not extend it, and we do not keep separate copies.
- Rate-limiting entries: expire within one hour.
- Email: retained only as long as needed to respond and keep basic business records.
Deleting Your Account
In the app, Settings → Subscription → Delete Account does the following, immediately:
- Deletes your anonymous identifier and the subscription record linked to it from our servers
- Removes your identifier from your usage statistics and any problem reports you sent, so what remains is anonymous aggregate data we can no longer connect to you
- Removes your downloaded books, your preferences, your reading position, and your record of finished chapters from your device
Because your anonymous identifier is stored in your iCloud Keychain and can also be recovered from your Apple purchase history, restoring a purchase or reinstalling later may give you the same identifier again. Deleting the app from all your devices and, if you wish, removing the FluentWeave entry from your iCloud Keychain prevents this.
Your Apple subscription itself is managed by Apple and will continue to renew unless you cancel it in your Apple ID settings — deleting your FluentWeave account does not cancel it.
Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect the information we handle, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all communication between the app and our servers. Note that no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Encryption / Export Compliance Note
FluentWeave does not implement custom encryption. It relies on standard, platform-provided security features (for example, TLS and the iOS Keychain) when storing data and communicating over the internet.
Children’s Privacy
FluentWeave is intended for a general audience, with a primary focus on adult learners. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we add features that collect or transmit personal information beyond what this policy describes, we will update this Privacy Policy before those changes take effect. The "Last updated" date above reflects the current version.
